Top 5 Must See Attractions in Xian
Xian was one of the most important cradles of Chinese civilization. It marked the start of the famous "Silk Road" that linked China with central Asia and the Roman Empire. And it served as the first capital of a unified China and capital of 13 dynasties periodically from the 11th century B.C. to the early 10th century A.D. Xian, or Chang'an as it was called in ancient times, is known as the city of "Everlasting Peace."
Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum
Top 1 Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum
The museum is called "the eighth wonder of the world" and is listed as the world cultural heritage by UNESCO. In March, 1974, farmers from Xiyang Village, Yanzhai Township, Lintong County accidentally uncovered the potteries in the pits when they were digging wells, 1.5km away from the Mausoleum of First Qin Emperor. The three pits with a total area of 22,780 square meters are tagged Pit1, Pit 2 and Pit 3 respectively in the order of their discoveries. The terra-cotta warriors and horses not only are tall in shape, but also were made precisely with accurate model and advanced techniques. Tens of thousands of unearthed real weapons which fall into complete categories are proved to be superb in technique.

Transportation
Bus 306 (Tourist Bus No. 5) can be found on the square, east of the Railway Station. It will take you to the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum. The whole journey takes 1 to 1.5 hours and costs 7 Yuan. Bus No. 914 and 915 can also take you to the Museum. The ticket fee is also 7 Yuan. You can also choose taxi, but it costs 120 Yuan, very expensive.

Top 2 Big Wild Goose Pagoda
With Indian Buddhist architecture style, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda leaves tourist good impression. It is located in the Da Ci'en Temple, which is the landmark architecture of Xian and one of the most famous Buddhist pagodas in China. In 652, Master Xuan Zang, a distinguished translator and great traveler, requested the emperor to build the grand Big Wild Goose Pagoda for storing the Buddhist Scriptures.

A Tip:
Music Fountain is open to public on: 12:00, 20:00 from Monday to Friday; 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00 and 20:00 on Saturday and Sunday. It is better to visit the Music Fountain at night for the beautiful scenes made by the colorful lights and wonderful fountain.

Top 3 Shaanxi Provincial History Museum
It is the first large, state-level modern museum China, which is a grand complex of buildings imitating the architecture of Tang Dynasty style. The museum exhibits the relics of ancient Chinese dynasties from Homo Erectus Lantianensis to Prehistoric Period, Zhou, Qin, Han, Southern and Northern Dynasty, Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. It is a good place to know more about Shaanxi culture.

A Tip:
a). One person can only get one ticket with the ID card. It starts to deliver the tickets from 8:30 every morning. However, it is better to line up at about 7:30 for the ticket. If you are late, all the tickets will be distributed.
b).It is strongly suggested that you hire a professional guide to know more about the history of Shaanxi and China. It takes CNY 80 to hire a guide and the explanation will take 2 to 2.5 hours.

Tickets
Since March 2008, the museum has started to deliver free tickets, 4000 tickets for each day (2500 tickets before 14:00 and 1500 tickets in the afternoon). You must take your ID card to get the free ticket.
Top 4 Xian Ancient City Wall
About 13.7km in length, the City Wall is the most complete, the best preserved and the largest ancient city wall in the world. Every 120m, there is a rampart extending out if the main wall. Altogether there are 98 ramparts. The triple city gates consisting of Front Tower, Arrow Tower and Gate Tower were built in four directions of the ancient wall. There are 5,984 battlements built outside the ancient wall, where soldiers can have a lookout and shoot enemies. A wide and deep moat encircles the wall and suspension bridges which can be raised or lowered freely are set up against the city gates.

A Tip:
The best way to visit the Ancient City Wall is to hire a bicycle and ride on the wall. The fee is CNY 20 for a bicycle and CNY 40 for a tandem within one and a half hours.

Top 5 Xian Great Mosque
The Great Mosque in Xian is a tranquil and historic site that has served Xian's Muslim community for more than a millennium. The "largest and best preserved of the early mosques of China", its buildings are a fascinating fusion of Chinese and Arabic styles.
